Become a volunteer speaker for SHALVA. We will train you to present one or more of our community outreach programs. This position requires participation in a 40-hour certification course on domestic abuse, as required by the State of Illinois.
Tzedakah Fair Helper
Represent SHALVA by staffing the SHALVA table at synagogue Tzedakah Fairs. Fairs are usually held on Sunday mornings.
Informational Bathroom Posters
Help deliver and monitor the supply of SHALVA informational posters that are in synagogues and select local businesses.
Cell Phone Collection
Pick up phone collections from synagogues quarterly. SHALVA partners with a recycler and receives funds for old cell phones, smartphones, tablets and iPods.
Cell Phone Drive
Organize a cell phone drive through your synagogue, sisterhood, men’s group, social action committee, school PTA, etc.
Host an educational event for your friends, an intimate way to learn about what domestic violence looks like in the Jewish community, how to prevent it, and how to help someone experiencing domestic abuse. We simply ask that you open up your home, invite your friends, serve light refreshments and we will provide the program. Daytime and evening options are available. Serve on Board of Directors

Serve on a volunteer committee such as Legal, Development, Outreach, Events, “Under 40” Task Force and Marketing.
Looking for a regular, weekly volunteer opportunity? Answer the phones and help community members in need. SHALVA will train you to answer our phones and conduct phone intakes. This position requires participation in a 40-hour certification course on domestic abuse, as required by the State of Illinois. Other duties may include: data entry, mailings, filing and general office work. Computer skills required.
